About Face
Course No: PD101
Introduction
The Chinese are renowned for their inscrutability, so its probably no accident that senior civil servants, even here, are called Mandarins. Theyve learnt to be considered about what they say and control their posture and facial expression to hide their personal thoughts and opinions and keep people guessing about their real agenda.
Everyone does this to an extent. You might put a brave face on things to hide your uncertainties, for example. Or otherwise control your facial expression to help get the result youre looking for. The problem is that you cant completely hide whats really on your mind. If you know where to look, there are all sorts of clues you can pick up on. And that can improve your understanding of those you work with and make you much more effective at work.
Objective
To give you the opportunity to see beyond the masks that people put on when they come to work or in any given situation, Picasso HR is teaming up with face reading expert Glenna Trout to offer a two day workshop titled About Face. Please note there are only 8 places per programme and places will be reserved on first come first served basis. This is a rare opportunity to work with such a distinguished presenter.
At About Face, you will learn about
- face mapping tools that are used in law enforcement, mental health, government, educational and commercial organisations worldwide.
- how to recognise and understand the masks people put on to obscure the more personal and private aspects of who they are and how they feel.
In the context of personnel management, you will learn how to
- understand how people feel about themselves and others
- recognise when an individual might be stuck in a negative behaviour pattern,
how best to approach each individual and - how to take steps to encourage positive growth and development.
Youll have the chance to practice using these skills, and to learn how to use the new information youll have on those around you to become more effective, both at work and socially.
Workshop Content
The workshop has been split into two half days and a full day as follows:
See beyond the mask (Half day)
Learn the tools of face mapping - recognising and understanding masks or facades people project in comparison to who they are (and how they feel) on a more personal or private level.
By practising the use of these face reading tools, it is possible to gain a deeper understanding of all individuals (your 'self' included!).
You will be able to recognise such attributes as how consistent they are (or are not); how they feel about themselves and others; how best to approach each individual to maximise the most positive interactions possible.
Deeper understanding of the person behind the masks (Full day)
Each human being is unique and complex but this section of the course offers additional tools for understanding an individual's attitudes, beliefs and behaviours; their view of life, others and self based on their experiences and how they express and process emotion. In this section, we learn how to recognise where an individual may be 'stuck' in a negative behaviour pattern and steps toward encouraging positive growth and development.
A practical session (Half day)
This is a practical session which will be dedicated to discussion and practical application. Delegates will be encouraged to bring photos they would like to analyse, but in any case Glenna will be providing some photos.
Investment
