Coaching for Excellence
Course No: M113
Introduction
Executive development has recently undergone a major transformation in Britain’s most successful Businesses. Instead of "sheepdipping" groups of managers through training courses that may or may not address individual development issues, the need to focus on the specific needs of the key contributors to the business is increasingly being recognised.
Objective
So what is performance coaching and why is it successful?
Good managers get things done through people. Excellent managers inspire excellent performance in their people. An essential skill in getting your team from an okay performance to excellent performance is coaching. This programme will enable you to get the best from your team by increasing their motivation and abilities. You will learn about your own coaching style and how to use it effectively, and the processes and skills that you will apply to coach your team to excellent performance.
Coaching is concerned with achieving changes in behaviour and improving performance by establishing a positive and supportive relationship in which genuine self learning can occur. Coaches don’t have to be technical experts but they do have to be able to facilitate personal development. This is usually achieved by the coaches’ high level skills in listening, questioning, empathy and not feeling they have to provide answers.
The focus is always on the person being coached and developing their ability to solve problems and create new, problem solving strategies for themselves.
In many companies, this is considered so critical to the success of the business that trained external coaches are hired to support particular individuals over long periods. However, internally managers can develop themselves to become effective coaches as well. This programme aims to help managers to do that.

This 1 day workshop with half a day follow-up provides an intensive, hands on, practical "gateway" for managers who want to become better coaches or develop a more effective coaching style.
