Tip for the Top

Do you have a retirement planning strategy for your staff?

After many years of working, to suddenly find yourself with little to do, can be a difficult situation to come to terms with. For those whose lives revolve around their work, retirement can be a devastating experience.

Many organisations have a retirement planning strategy to help their staff think through retirement options available to them. The strategy can contain information on a range of topics and have links with organisation that run courses and/or can provide support on for example:

  • Financial options – pension options, savings, investing.
  • Training – pursuing interests, developing new interests e.g. learning a new language
  • Leisure – Clubs and societies
  • Health – assess their own ideas on health and encourage them to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
  • Coping with change
  • Counselling
  • Voluntary activities
  • Employment after retirement

Many organisations arrange annual (or even a bi-annual) ‘get together’ for the retired ex-employees. This is not just a valuable benefit for the retirees but you are demonstrating to your current and potential workforce that you are a caring employer and it will say a lot about the organisations culture.
