Information Security

The impact when things go wrong

We have all seen cases recently where information has gone astray. The impact on a business cannot be underestimated. The bad PR and damage to the brand would inevitably lead to customers heading elsewhere.

The failure of a critical IT system on which your organisation is dependant could sound the death knell for your organisation. Following data loss, a University of Texas study found 43% of firms never re-opened, 51% failed within 2 years, and only 6% survived.

Is your organisation at risk?

Modern organisations are almost 100% reliant on information to function. The threats organisations face are substantial and the consequences of getting it wrong are severe. Information may be at risk from many sources and in many ways.

When people think about Information Security, they typically think it is just an issue for the IT department. It isn't. It's a strategic business management issue that must be addressed by top management within the organisation.

What's at risk?

  • Brand and reputation. That carefully developed brand can be severely dented by a security event.
  • Money. Either direct, for example through fraud or loss of trading capability, or indirect, such as remedial action and communications with customers and press.

How can security help me?

Firstly, it will allow you to sleep at night. If you are already sleeping well, and haven't considered security issues, then you probably should be worried.

It can provide competitive advantage by demonstrating to clients that you manage their information well and that you will always be able to deliver the products and services customers demand.

It will ensure that your time and money is spent wisely protecting those assets that are critical to your organisation.
